MS Sealant Manufacturer Qualifies MENGWEI Against a Long-Standing Reference
“The bar was: do not compromise our product. MENGWEI cleared it.”- R&D Manager
Challenge
An established MS polymer sealant manufacturer in Penang, referred to here as G— Chemical (M) Sdn Bhd, produces its own branded sealant line for the Southeast Asian construction market. Its reference MS resin had been imported from a leading Japanese supplier for years. Quality was excellent, but the overall cost-per-tube was eroding margins as Malaysian competitors pressured market prices.
The customer wanted to qualify an alternative MS resin source, but only one that could match existing formulation specifications without forcing a full reformulation of the sealant line.
Approach
We provided samples of dimethoxy- and trimethoxy-terminated MS polymers across the target molecular weight range, with complete viscosity, end-group analysis, and accelerated aging data. The customer's internal lab ran its standard sealant qualification protocol against the existing reference.
Validation took 14 weeks. The customer set strict performance gates.
Outcome
- MENGWEI MS resins passed the full protocol including viscosity, end-group analysis, accelerated aging at 70°C / 90% RH for 1000 hours, and adhesion testing on concrete, aluminum, and PVC
- Customer added MENGWEI to the qualified supplier panel
- Recurring 20-foot container orders now ship with consistent batch-to-batch quality
- Customer's own brand performance remains unchanged in field applications
